Safety Precautions

When working with concrete, it is always prudent to observe the following safety precautions:

1	Wear protective clothing as well as a hard hat, goggles, gloves and wellies.

2	Avoid direct contact between concrete and the skin. Wash off immediately.

3	If eyes come into contact with concrete, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

Composition
Concrete is a mixture of natural aggregates, lightweight aggregates which may include Lytag, Leca, Pelite, Blast Furnace Slag and cementitious material including cement, pulverised fuel ash (PFA) and water. Admixtures may be added.
Mortar is a mixture of natural aggregates, cementitious material including cement and water together with admixtures and colourings.

Hazards Identification

Wet Concrete and Mortar

Contact with wet concrete can cause:

1	Irritant Contact Dermatitis

2	Allergic Contact Dermatitis

3	Cement Burn
